(Division of Breast Surgery, Fox Chase Cancer Center)
Temple University Hospital (TUH), in collaboration with Fox Chase Cancer Center (FCCC), is seeking a fellowship-trained board-certified Breast Surgeon to join our growing academic Division of Breast Surgery, which is currently comprised of six full-time breast surgeons. Prior independent practice experience is required; this position is ideally suited for an early- to mid-career academic breast surgeon seeking increasing leadership responsibility within an established divisional structure.
The position will be based primarily at Temple University Hospital and its affiliated Women’s and Families Hospital to serve as the Site Director of the TUH Breast Center, providing on-site clinical leadership while operating within the clinical, academic, and quality framework of the Fox Chase Division of Breast Surgery. This is a unique opportunity to deliver high-quality, multidisciplinary breast care in a diverse urban environment while contributing to the continued growth and operational expansion of the TUH Breast Center.
The appointment will afford an exceptional opportunity to provide comprehensive surgical management for benign and malignant breast disease. The candidate will participate in the Fox Chase Cancer Center system-wide breast tumor board, and collaborate closely with the multidisciplinary team, which includes plastic surgery, medical oncology, radiation oncology, radiology, pathology, and genetics, among other services. The position also provides an opportunity to serve as a key faculty member in the education and supervision of general surgery residents and medical students at TUH. The Site Director will play a key role in implementing and advancing Divisional initiatives at the TUH site, including practice development, community outreach, and academic activities encompassing teaching, clinical research, and quality improvement initiatives, in accordance with Divisional priorities and standards.
The role reports administratively and academically to the Chief of the Division of Breast Surgery at Fox Chase Cancer Center, in order to ensure alignment of clinical standards, operational efficiencies, research priorities, and educational missions across TUH, FCCC and their satellites, while maintaining a strong collaborative and professional relationship with the Chair of Surgery at Temple University Hospital to ensure seamless integration with the Department of Surgery’s clinical, educational, and quality initiatives.
Candidates should have a strong commitment to clinical excellence and trainee education. A demonstrable track record of scholarly activity in breast surgery and breast disease is ideal. They should be a highly affable and collaborative individual who has an interest in building a practice. A successful clinical academic track record and prior experience in quality improvement are desirable. Clinical research success in breast surgery with a love of mentoring residents is advantageous, as is prior work with underserved populations. Strong motivational and leadership skills are highly desirable.
The candidate must be an MD or DO from an accredited medical school who is board certified in general surgery. Fellowship training in Breast Surgical
Oncology or Complex General Surgical Oncology is preferred. The candidate must be eligible for medical licensure in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
