Upstate Veterinary Specialties (UVS) is a privately-owned hospital providing 24/7 emergency and critical care alongside board-certified specialty care for companion animals in New York State’s Capital District. Our services include:

Our departments are supported by experienced LVTs (including five VTSs), assistants, and client relations specialists. We have a full administrative team and a diverse on-site leadership team. Our referral base spans upstate and western New York, the Mid-Hudson Valley, western New England, and beyond.

Our Facility
UVS is a custom-built, 45,000-square-foot facility. Our neurology/neurosurgery department features three dedicated exam rooms, a workroom for rounds, teaching, inpatient exams, and diagnostics. Our surgical suite includes:
- Five operating rooms (orthopedics/MIS, soft tissue, emergency, ophthalmology, neurosurgery)
- Two surgical prep areas
- Central sterilization and recovery room
- Proximity to ICU and diagnostic imaging

- Two digital X-ray units (Asteris PACS)
- 64-slice Toshiba CT scanner
- 1.5T Siemens Avanto Fit MRI with advanced imaging software
- Fluoroscopy suite with OEC 9800 C-arm
- VetClarity Mobile DR for intra-op imaging
- Sonocure Ultrasonic Surgical Aspirator
- Bovie monopolar/bipolar electrosurgical unit
- Buffalo Surgical Smoke Evacuation
- Three Hall Surgairtome Nitrogen Powered Drill Kits
- Three Rhoton Micro Dissector Sets
- Codman titanium microvascular surgical kit
- Medicon maxillofacial set (titanium mesh & self-drilling screws)
- Artemedics polyaxial screw set
- Cadwell 32-channel EEG equipment
- MRI Compatible Ventilator
Additional state-of-the-art equipment requests will be considered. Our 24/7 ICU is supported by three criticalists and two hospitalists. We are also launching a full-service in-house reference lab and onsite crematorium.
